Question : Server 2003 RPC over HTTP issue with Cisco PIX

This issue concerns accessing Exchange 2003 from outside the LAN using the RPC over HTTP protocol that is built into Server 2003 and Outlook.  We can successfully get the service operating inside the LAN but as soon as we go outside, we get stopped by the firewall.  Though the packets are encapsulated in HTTP, it seems that the PIX may be looking inside them and seeing they are really RPC and stopping them from coming through.

If this is the case, is there a way around it that allows the service to work and at the same time does not compromise our security?  We are not using MS ISA server.

Answer : Server 2003 RPC over HTTP issue with Cisco PIX

Assuming you have the conduit and static statements right, the command "no fixup protocol http 80" will tell the pix not to inspect the traffic to make sure it is really HTTP.
