Question : How to fix Internet acces quirk?

Hi experts,

My sister can get on her homepage and navigate the web just fine. However if the site requires her to sign-in with a user name and password the page will not open after trying for a long time.  These sites are her email, her banking site, etc.  This happens with both IE and Firefox, so I am assuming that it is not browser-related.  BUT I am not the Expert.

I have no idea what to tell her especially over the phone.  I plan on going to her house tomorrow AM to take a look, but at this point I do not know where to begin.

MY QuESTION IS:  Can anyone assist in fixing this internet situation?  Has anyone heard of anything like this?

from what it sounds there is a security issue with HTTPS:  as most sites that you log into require a secure connection aka https or ssl. there is a setting in all browsers that control ssl connections and there is also a fix that might work as well call xp winsock fix; a quick google search will find it for you.  if that does not work, try google chrome or safari as neither use the mozilla or IE engine to browse ssl.
