Question : Sender ID pra not permitted, only fails from Lotus Domino server

Hello All,

My domain was able to transmit messages to the domain Ill refer to as "garbage.com"... just fine, but I was NOT able to receive email from garbage.com...

After doing some real basic google searches regarding the error "Sender ID pra not permitted 500" it turns out my "SMTP virtual Server" had applied "apply sender Filter", and "apply Sender ID filter" enabled... after i removed those two attributes, email was arriving from garbage.com.

My question for the Lotus/email expert out there is this (I found out the sending server is a lotus domino/notes server);

!!!!!!!!!Question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is it about the formation of an originating Lotus server, that would cause their email to fail the "sender/sender ID filter" check??? seems (from my limited searching) to be a lotus problem...

"Sender ID pra not permitted 500"
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...we've been receiving email fine from others for 2 years now, but something regarding their configuration is busted, Id like to call them on it :)

best,

J

Answer : Sender ID pra not permitted, only fails from Lotus Domino server

Sender Policy Framework is not about MX records.
MX records points to the servers that are receiving mail for a given domain
Sender ID tells about the servers that are authorized to send mail for a given domain.

It would be responsibility of the sender side - either directly or indirectly (if DNS management is delegated to ISP) to maintain these records.

It is somebody from the sender's side, but not necessaraly lotus or messaging admins
