Question : Why can't I mix static and dynamic IP addressing
|
|
Hi Ppl
I have two computers. They both have wireless connections to a router and I can't work out how to get them to talk to each other. I eventually assumed that they couldn't becuase of security.
So, I connected them both with a crossovercable, so they are both connected wireless and wired. But I have to make the wired connections static IP addresses when the wireless connections are allocated by the router via DHCP.
The problem is when I do this, neither machine can access the router or see each other. It isn't till I make the ethernet connections dynamic that they can see the router. But this way, they can't talk to each other.
How can I have a static and dynamic IP mixed system? I can't see why they should not work that way.
TIA

You can access any folder if you have admin rights to that folder. With XP Pro, you do this with the Security tab... With Home edition, you need to boot into Safe Mode, which will allow you to 'see' the Security tab.
Then, to access the entire drive, you access the Admin$ share (which is considered hidden). To do this:
Start > Run > \\ipaddress\admin$ (OK)
I am not an ME guy, and have never owned this operating system... Went straight from 98 to W2K then, of course, XP Pro machines... But, setting up ME shares is pretty much the same as 98... Just make sure you have setup the system to share files via Network Properties.
