Question : Using 2 Windows DHCP Servers on one AD Domain

Currently, i am using one dhcp server to hand out addresses, but would like to add another dhcp server so that if one server goes down, there is always a standby for clients.  I found the best practices from MS that states use a 80/20 rule.  So my question is, if i back up the config of one DHCP server and restore it to the new DHCP server, can i just change the ranges each server hands out?  One server would have 172.20.1.1 to 172.20.1.90, and the other would be 172.20.1.91 to 172.20.1.254.  Would the restore of the 1st server cause any conflicts with the new server?

Answer : Using 2 Windows DHCP Servers on one AD Domain

You should be able to copy the config from one DHCP to the other just make sure that the scopes arent authorized until you get them the way you want them.

Also in order for a DHCP server to even begin handing out addresses you need to have a domain admin authorize it. You could iport your config change it as you see fit and then as the last step authorize the server.
