Question : Cisco AP Config - Encryption Overhead

I'm trying to decide what encryption cipher to use. Currently we're using TKIP but I'd like to upgrade us to WPA2. One of my coworkers said that AES CCMP + TKIP is the strongest, but I feel like there may be too much overhead there - we did notice a slight slowness when we went from WEP to WPA. There are about 15 clients normally attached to this on a daily basis. Thanks!

Answer : Cisco AP Config - Encryption Overhead

AES does not really have any more overhead than TKIP.  It's just a different (and stronger) encryption algorithm.  Also, you can use either TKIP or AES with WPA.  However, I would also recommend using WPA2.  If you implement WPA2 with AES, then you have CCMP...AES is synonymous with AES-CCMP.   You can't run CCMP with TKIP because CCMP is built around AES.  As long as your equipment supports it, just use AES and forget about TKIP.
