Question : NAS has Phantom IPs and replies when switched off
I have a new Synology NAS, it works perfectly. However, I shut the unit down last night and when I turned it on today i could not connect.
The NAS has been using 192.100.0.11 and is called SOLOMON on my windows workgroup. It obtans IP from my Router which performs DHCP.
The Synology assistant found the NAS on my network at 192.100.0.9. The NAS had picked up a new IP, 192.100.0.9 however it would not respond to a ping. However, if i pinged the old IP 192.100.0.11 then it replied...
I decided to shut it down. I removed the power cord and the lan cable that linked it to my switch.
I pinged again.... 192.100.0.11 replied - even though the unit was switched off.... I pinged the units name - SOLOMON - it replied and resolved to 192.100.0.11 even though it was OFF and had no network cable attached...
I have shut down my entire network. including eight port switch and router.
I turned the router on first, then the switch and then a single laptop.... but the same problem persists... The NAS is off and unplugged yet stil replies to a ping...
It has no wireless function....
What on earth is going on...?
How can it reply if it is turned off......
Answer : NAS has Phantom IPs and replies when switched off
Try deleting the lease from the router
