Question : Multiple clients connecting to their VPN off of one WAP......

I need to make sure a wireless connection in a meeting room will support about 20 people connecting to the same VPN tomorrow. I have assured them the connection will be fine. Now I am looking for some assurance or what to possibly expect should their be a problem...

I have a connection/port in a meeting room that tests out at 18MBdown/5MBup. However when I hook up my Deliberant AP Solo WAP point....I only pull 5MBdown/5MBup....is that a normal drop for using wireless-G???

At these 5MB speeds would I expect any problems with about 20 different people (from the same company) connecting to their VPN?

The router being used for this connection is a Netgear wireless WGR614 router.

Please, any comments are appreciated. Thanks

Answer : Multiple clients connecting to their VPN off of one WAP......

If you have additional APs/routers available, you could put one on each of three non-overlapping channels, e.g. 1, 6 and 11. Configure them with unique SSIDs, such as meet-1, meet-6 and meet-11 so you can divide up the connections evenly (with 6 or 7 on each one)...

It's not entirely clear if we're all on the same page with our units, by the way...  generally MB means megabytes, which is 8 times the size of megabits (Mb). And mega is generally interpreted as 1000; if you mean 1024, use mebi.

So 54Mb/sec is less than 7MB/sec, but with wireless and packet overhead, real-world throughput of a 54Mbps connection is usually only about half of that (see http://www.oreillynet.com/lpt/a/4085 for an article by Matthew Gast)... the best I recall seeing real world on 54Mbps wireless without cache assistance was under 4MB/sec.  So an 18MB connection should easily support three 54Mbps APs running wide open in the download direction.
