Question : error "active Directory needs to be present" on new machine, how do I do that

I am trying to install some software on an evaluation copy of a virtual machine. It does a Prerequisites check and come up with the error "active Directory needs to be present"

I know very little about active directory.  How do I go about associating this machine to the Active Directory?
