Question : Home Wireless network -- configuring printer access

Hi,

I have a Linksys wireless network at home with a cable modem.

My desktop (Win XP) is connected to the wap-router combination.

The laptop (Win 2K) is connected to a printer.

The question is:

How do I enable file-sharing, printer-sharing, etc.
Thanks.

Answer : Home Wireless network -- configuring printer access

Oh I see. All right. Is the desktop and the router set up correctly? can the desktop access the internet? If you need step-by step instructions, just ask, but the router manual should have everything you need.

Once you can ping each computer from the other (type ping )

Now on the laptop, go to Network and Dial-up connections. Click the wireless connection. Add the File and Print sharing. (If it's not already there)

Add the File and print sharing on the NIC on your desktop too.

If you need more clarification, just ask.

To enable file sharing:
Right click a drive or folder, click the sharing tab, Enable sharing, create a name and whatever other options you need. Now go to the other computer and map network drive; if the computer name is Laptop, then map \\laptop\resourcename (that you created.)

For printer sharing
Make sure the printer is configured properly. (you can print from the local computer.) Now right click the printer, and enable sharing, make a name for the printer. On the other computer click add new printer in the printers folder and map printer like you did the drive.

Any questions just ask.
