Question : Asterisk cost-effective solution for analogue telephone lines.

I have my Asterisk pbx running and i have the extensions and voicemails going on, the only thing i would like is to add regular analogue telephone lines. I know that i can buy a card from digium but i need something more cost effective. May be i can use a modem or something. thanks

Answer : Asterisk cost-effective solution for analogue telephone lines.

Yes,  the ATA sits on the network with the Asterisk box.  So the ATA provides a SIP 'line' much like another internal extension except that it is actually to an analog line.

As far as Asterisk is concerned it would just be another SIP connection.  The ATA device does all the analog to digital signal translation.
