Question : Cannot access web console/device until ip address is pinged.
Hi,
I have an issue that has finally become annoying for me and I was hoping somebody might have an answer.
My issue is that before I can access any web console from a particular server I must first ping an ip address and receive a reply.
The server has 2 onboard broadcom netxtreme II NICS and 4 intel pro 1000 NICS as part of an add on card. The server also hosts 4 virtual machines which have created four virtual NICS.
It seems that when I start the pings it will randomly pick a couple of the virtual NICS to ping through before it starts to reply. I have the 2 onboard NICS as a team and the team and then the two physical NICS are listed as the first connections to access.
I am stumped as to why this happens especially considering the virtual machines can actually access the consoles I wish with no pinging needed.
Answer : Cannot access web console/device until ip address is pinged.
Issue is fixed. We had to change the priority of the NICS on the host machine.
We only had the two broadcom connections teamed. The intel ones were not teamed.
