Question : Trouble telnetting to port 25 on MDaemon

Hi,

Going a bit nuts here.  I am working on an mdaemon server.  I receives mail for the domain and then routes it to users.  I can telnet to port 25 from my laptop with no problem.  I cannot telnet to it from any other device here.  It is receiving mail ok from our anti-spam company.  I am doing some testing because I am going to be swapping out a router.

I have changed my ip address, moved my network cable around and I can always telnet to the local ip's of the server.  But I cannot do it from any other machine here.  Have tried xp, 2000, 2003 server.

I cannot find anything in the config of the server that would be causing this.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bonnie

Answer : Trouble telnetting to port 25 on MDaemon

Perhaps there is a type of firewall device between your systems and the Mdaemon server that's blocking TCP 25 (SMTP) connections.  If a firewall is configured correctly, only the internal mail server should be able to send Email to the outside world while all other internal systems will not be able to.

Additionally, most workstation anti-virus clients will intercept outbound TCP 25 connections "assuming" that the workstation is infected and attempting to send spam if it's trying to send on TCP 25.

Hope this helps...

Mike
