Question : Mapped Network Drives Dropping

Bear with me here, as this explanation might be a bit wordy;

In our office, we have two domains; (for argument's sake, Domain1 and Domain2). Domain1 is our main group of 85 or so workstations, containing our main file, email, print, DNS server, etc. Domain2 is a small, 5-workstation domain exclusively for our accounting department, created so we could keep our confidential accounting files separate from our main domain users. Domain2 consists of 5 Windows XP Pro machines, with DNS settings set to our Domain1 DNS Server IP address.

Anyway, both domains work fine, except that there's a drive I need mapped on the Domain2 computers from the file server on Domain1. For example, our file server "fileserver" from Domain1 has a share named "system". I'm trying to map \\fileserver\system to  the computers in Domain2. Now, the mapping works when the users of Domain2 first log on (as the also have accounts on Domain1), but after say, 15-30 minutes or so, when the users try to click on the mapping or access anything in it, the computer stalls for a few moments, and it says the connection was dropped. Logging off and back on reestablishes the connection, but again, only for a short time.

What might I need to do to prevent this connection from, well, timing out? I tried setting up a trust between the two domains, but Domains2 server is a Windows 2003 Server for Small Business, which won't allowing trusts between domains.

Again, to reiterate, communication between the two domains is there, completely (initially).  It just seems to time out. Any ideas?
