Question : copying large file over network: not enough free space

Hi, I have a 10gb file hat I'm trying to copy over the network to another computer. The computer I am copying to has just over 20gb of free space. When I try to copy the file, it  says there is not enough free disk space. I know there is twice the amout of disk space needed to store the file so why would it say that?

Thanks, Acsell

Answer : copying large file over network: not enough free space

Hi acsell,

Most likely the filesystem on the recieving computer is formatted with the FAT32 filesystem, which can't handle files bigger than 4GB, to circumvent this, convert that disk to the NTFS filesystem. (note that if you have another operating system on that computer like win95/98/ME you won't be able to access the files on this disk anymore)

To conver the disk:
Start => Run => type "convert X: /FS:NTFS" (where X is the driveletter) and press enter, you might recieve a message to schedule it for the next reboot, do so and reboot the computer.

Greetings,

LucF
