Question : Veritas BackUp Exec (Version 7.3)

Hi all can anyone help me with the following problem.

I'm trying to backup an NT4 server using the above software.  Everytime i schedule a backup, the status comes up as "Loading" where its seeking the backup tape and then after a while, it sets itself to "Pending" without backing up anything.

I've looked in the log file for the backup job but that tells me nothing as to why it sets itself to "pending".  I've stopped and started the Backup Exec services in the control panel various times and popped in a cleaning tape to clean the drive itself but its all to no avail.

I've checked the "Devices" tab from within Backup Exec and it does detect that a tape is in the drive, i'm just really baffled as to why it keeps setting itself to "Pending".  I've checked on the Veritas website but can not seem to find any answers.

Answer : Veritas BackUp Exec (Version 7.3)

We had the same problem with a group of about 10 servers doing the same thing.
Points to check are if you have recently changed the administrators password, dont know why but resorting to the oringinal installation password solved many f our problems (unlike re-installing veritas).

I also had similar problems with the tape ejecting, turned out to be dirt in the tape drive, vertias couldnt recognise the fault, a quick onceover with a cleaning tape and an entire powerdown of the system, including turning it off at the wall, usually solves this issue.

Hop it helps!
