Question : difference between the dps and ds1 cards

Hi All,

I have a quintum tenor 960 cms, I am using it for testing and I am reading the manual. Can someone explain to me the difference between a DS1 and DSP card?

From my own reading, DSP is a digital signal processor, is that the same as the CPU card?

Also, I believe the DS1 cards are where the WAN ports are configured is that correct? As in DS1 can be a card with ISDN T1/E1 ports or ethernet ports?

Can someone clear the confusion for me?

Thanks

Answer : difference between the dps and ds1 cards

DSP is a card that modulate or process the voice communication.  It allow a router/computer/equiptment to process a certain type of signal.  In VoIP PBX/switches it is used to process voice.  It can be on the device board or an add on card.  Yes it is like a CPU, but most look very much like a DIMM/SIMM memory module.

DS1 is a type of network circuit technology. Like you mention about Ethernet / PRI /E1/T!.
