Question : W32Time Windows Error messages

Hi there.

I am receiving event log messages sporadically on 2 Windows 2000 servers. Both servers are Domain controllers for the same domain.

Server 1 has the following error message:
-------------------------------------------------
Event Type:      Warning
Event Source:      w32time
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      54
Date:            19/01/2005
Time:            11:51:20
User:            N/A
Computer:      SERVER1
Description:
The Windows Time Service was not able to find a Domain Controller. A time and date update was not possible.
Data:
0000: e5 03 00 00               å...
----------------------------------------------------

Server 2 has this message:
----------------------------------------------------
Event Type:      Warning
Event Source:      w32time
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      11
Date:            19/01/2005
Time:            01:42:24
User:            N/A
Computer:      SERVER2
Description:
The NTP server \\SERVER1 didn't respond
Data:
0000: 00 00 00 00               ....
-----------------------------------------------------

I have read up quite extensively on this error but most of what I can find relates to WINNT. EventID.net has also proven 'almost useful'.

Hope you can help shed some light and get this cleared up for me!

Thanks

Answer : W32Time Windows Error messages

To verify :-

1. Use nslookup command to verify SRV records :-
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&uid=swg21084986

2. If not registered then :-

Goto \Winnt\system32\Config directory, find netlogon.dns and import its data to DNS zone.

Or

a. Open DNS console.
b. Delete Active Directory Integrated zone.
c. Stop Netlogon service from services.msc snap-in.
d. Close and reopen dns console.
e. Recreate Zone.
f. and finally restart the Netlogon service to register SRV records into DNS.

Try it and let us know.
