Question : Remote access with no Fixed IP

Myself and a colleague both have British Telecom ADSL connections and Windows XP Pro. We would like to use Remote Desktop to control each other's machines however neither of us have fixed IP addresses associated with our ADSL lines - they are served dynmaically from a pool by BT using PPPoE. In addition we are both using routers to share our ADSL connections between several machines. I can see 2 issues that we need to overcome - the first is routing the inbound Remote Desktop connection request to the correct machine (this is just a case of defining a static route for the appropriate port to the machine in the router) and the second is to get the Remote Desktop connection down the right ADSL pipe - bearing in mind we don't have fixed IP addresses. Any ideas, suggestions, real world experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Ed

Answer : Remote access with no Fixed IP

The Remote Assistance idea - is interesting however does this assume that the remote user has to be logged in and signed in as well - this can't be guaranted. All I >>know is that the remote machine is on.<<

Correct, requires user-initiation on both ends, unless you have a VPN setup between them...

While this is still in development, a few experts have gotten together to create a Q for remote connectivity procedures... you might check it out...http:Q_21014638.html
