Question : DNS configuration for a Windows 2003 SBS domain
|
|
I've been reading a lot about the correct DNS configuration for a Windows domain with a 2003 SBS as the DC. In this domain, they've got:
1. Windows SBS 2003 as the DC and the only internal DNS server 2. Windows 2000 server acting as a domain member and running as a Terminal Server
Based on what I've learned so far, the only place I should have the ISP's DNS server listed is in the properties of the NIC. On all other servers and/or workstation on the entire LAN, the ONLY DNS server that should be referenced is the SBS server. And DNS server info is being handled/issued by the DHCP server, which is also running on the SBS 2003 server.
Is this pretty much how things should be configured? Should there should be some sort of forwarder(s) configured in the DNS server on the SBS server that forward DNS requests to the ISP's DNS servers? I get confused here. Thanks.

Every thing is configured correctly. Do not use forwarders. Microsoft DNS can handle its own DNS. You should use your ISP's DNS as a secondary DNS just incase your DNS fails.
