Question : Outlook 2003 on Vista can receive but not send e-mail

I get this error when tyring to send e-mail. Prior to this, I was using a different laptop with XP and had no problems.
POP3 and SMTP are set to what my hosting provider told me. But still, does not work.

Answer : Outlook 2003 on Vista can receive but not send e-mail

1. It is NOT a Vista problem - rest assured.
2. Verify with your ISP that authentication is not required. Assuming not is not good enough.
3. Verify with your ISP that you have the correct SMTP for your setup. ISP's change SMTP's on unsuspecting customers.
4. Open Outlook -> Tools -> Accounts -> Next -> Select default account -> Change -> Test account settings. Record the results, especially error messages around the send.
5. While you are there, triple check each setting. A client paid me to come on site to troubleshoot an email problem only to sheepishly say they had used the wrong password. Everybody makes errors. Triple check.
6. Check that your Anti Virus is not hijacking your mail. Turn off email checking temporarily to test.

Good luck. ... Thinkpads_User
