Question : Wireless, Domain, Group policy

I am in the process of setting up a wireless network for about 15 windows 2000 computers. All of these computers are on a domain. I have setup the access points but have not purchased the wireless nic’s yet. I have some concerns on how the domain computer and user policies will get applied to these computers once they are on the wireless network. Usually the computer policy gets applied while booting up on a wired connection and if the wireless does not connect until after the user has logged into his/her computer then how will this effect things. For instance I push out software through the computer group policy, will this software no longer get installed on these computers?

Thanks

Answer : Wireless, Domain, Group policy

I didn't know the WZC had that capability, but in reading it seems in some configurations it does work. If trying that route, make sure you have connected to the network once, and checked under the network adapters properties; "Connection/Connect when this network is in range", and "Authentication/Authenticate as a computer when computer information is available". Then make sure you wait 30 seconds after the logon screen appears before logging on.

There are also options to configure default networks in group policy which may help under Computer configuration | Windows settings | security settings | Wireless networks | create wireless network policy

Finally I also read that a couple of manufacturers, including Dell, have added connect before logon options to some of their recent drivers. You might want to see in newer drivers are available.
