Question : VPN Connection Problem (Cisco 412 Error)
|
|
I'm having a problem with a VPN connection. The error I am receiving is "Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding."
The VPN client is Cisco Version 4.8.02.0010. The router is D-Link Hardware Version: A1 Firmware Version: 1.09 I connect to the internet via Rogers Cable and the cable modem is a Motorola SurfBoard Model:SB5100 I'm running windows XP Professional and have tried turning off the windows firewall and get the same result.
The VPN connection settings are: Group Authentication, Transparent Tunneling Enabled, IPSec over UDP (Nat/PAT).
When I take my laptop to a co-workers house, the vpn connects and works perfectly with exactly the same settings.
Thank you for your help,
Shawn

Seems like your router's got a screw loose. There is no firmware upgrade for it, so if this is a bug or missing feature, our options are limited. I have two ideas for you:
1. Reload the factory defaults for the router and set it up from scratch. 2. Borrow a friend's router or buy a new router to swap out for testing purposes. Get a Linksys if you can afford it, otherwise TrendNet makes decent routers for their low price. You can always return it if it doesn't solve your problem.
