Question : Error: (5) Access is Denined
|
|
I am getting an error saying Error: (5) Access is Denined when I try to copy a file. What can I do to fix resolve this so I can copy files.
I tried to copy from Laptop1 to Desktop2.
The share on the Desktop2 PC is: C:\Downloads With security on the folder - Everyone = full control & all other boxes checked except Special Permissions which is greyed out.
I have tried removing the share and setting it up again.
Laptop1 is running XP Pro Sp1 with Workgroup = WORKGROUP 192.168.1.70 Desktop2 is running XP Pro Sp1 with Workgroup = WORKGROUP 192.168.1.30
I can see Desktop2 from Laptop1 when I use the IP address.
Both have all MS updates. Both are running the Browser service The Laptop1 has a user defined on Desktop2. The same user on both PC's is configured as Administrator with the same password. Both have "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" selected in the network card.
Laptop1 shows C:\>net view Server Name Remark ------------------------------------ \\LAPTOP1 The command completed successfully. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters] Value Name: IsDomainMaster = False
Desktop2 shows C:\>net view System error 6118 has occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters] Value Name: IsDomainMaster = True
Currently the Laptop1 is the Master Browser. The Desktop2 should be the Master Browser. When the Desktop2 is the Master Browser the above two Net View results are reversed.
I have the XP firewall turned off on both PC's. I have ZoneAlarm Pro installed on both PC's. I have the IP address of the Laptop1 installed in the Desktop2 ZoneAlarm Firewall Zones as Trusted. I have the IP address of the Desktop2 installed in the Laptop1 ZoneAlarm Firewall Zones as Trusted.
I can Ping both ways with the IP address.
I don't have a domain setup and never have. I don't have a WINS server setup and never have.
There is a router connecting the two. It passes the following ports: PORT 137 (UDP) for NetBIOS Name Service PORT 138 (UDP) for NetBIOS datagram (Netlogon, Browsing) PORT 139 (TCP) for NetBIOS session
Any ideas how I can fix this Access is denined error?
Thank you,

You mentioned the security on the folder is Everyone full? What about the sharing permission on the share?
