Question : Win2k Servers cannot change Operations Master Roles
|
|
I have 2 Win2k Servers and I am trying to switch their roles on the network. I want to move the Operations Master from one to the other. I followed the directions in MS Article # 255690
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;255690#5
everything seemed fine for a few days, but now when I go into dsa and look at who the Operations Master is it jst says ERROR and when I try to change the roles again it tells methe current FSMO holder could not be contacted. Both servers are up and all the network shares are working. I have no problems logging on or adding or changing users, but when the old Operations Master is off-line the new onoe cannot get account info. On the old server I get an Event ID of 8032 saying the backup server is not available. Any ideas?

If the original holder cant be contacted then your best bet is to seize the roles that are coming up in error. If not all roles come up like this, just continue transferring the roles. Here is an article on ntdsutil and its ability to seize the fsmo roles.
