Question : After windows update get Dr. Watson with IE/OE, must remove RAS

I have a NT 4 workstation that started having problems about 2 weeks ago after running windows update. Starting IE or OE causes an application error and a visit from Dr. Watson. I can still ping internet sites from a cmd prompt.
I found that if I removed RAS that everything works fine (this machine has a NIC and gets internet access through the network). However this obviously prevents me from using the modem for sending/receiving faxes or connecting to work via RAS etc.
If I try to make a DUN connection, it asks me if I want to install RAS, and if I do, the same problem starts again. I have reapplied SP6a with no help. I even tried removing the most recent security patches with no success.
I wasnt convinced that it was related to a patch delivered via windows update until today when I got a call from a friend with the same issue. Both of these machines have been running fine and have had no recent hardware or software changes.
An example of the Dr. Watson message: Msimn.exe Exception: access violation 0xc0000006, Address: 0x77f88d33
Starting IE just causes it to hang and no Dr. Watson message appears.
Removing RAS and both start working again.
I have searched MSKB, technet, etc with no luck. Can anyone give me a few clues where to begin?

Answer : After windows update get Dr. Watson with IE/OE, must remove RAS

I had the same problem on an NT server and I had to re-install the operating system after the specific update crashed RAS manager. Uninstalling the update didn't help neither did re-installing SP6, so my only choice was to set up the system from the beggining.
Either of these would probably be your solution.
