Question : Printer On Network
|
|
At home I am trying to connect a HP LaserJet 4000 to a 4 port D-Link router and make it a network printer. However, I am unable to see it in the network. Does anybody here know the process for making this happen? I am running Windows 2000 on each of my three other computers
Thanks

Answer : Printer On Network

Shariq:
Presumptions: JetDirect card is installed and working; printer gets DHCP-assigned address from the D-Link router.
Using the printer's control panel, print a test page to see what IP address has been assigned. Better still, assign it a static IP address putside of the D-Link's DHCP assignment range.
In either case, on each W2K system: Add New Printer. Next. Select Local Printer and uncheck "automatically detect...". Next. Create a new port, and select "standard TCP/IP port". Next. Enter the printer's IP address. Next It should ask for the device type. Select the appropriate type (there should be a listing for HP JetDirect). Next & Finish
Select the printer make & model, install drivers as usual.
