Question : Configuring a CISCO 501 PIX firewall?
|
|
I've got a DSL router that I would like to connect to a SISCO PIX 501 firewall and then from the firewall to multiple computers running XP. How do I configure the firewall? What do I need? I want the to have full access out but I want the firewall to block inbound intrusion attempts.
I'm new to this whole thing so I need help configuring the firewall and in terms I can understand. Can anyone help?

As far as the configuration that is needed for the PIX, check out the following link on the Cisco Website for example configs:
http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/Support/browse/psp_view.pl?p=Hardware:PIX&s=Software_Configuration#Software_Samples_and_Tips
The firewall by default will allow all outbound and block all inbound, so configuration here may be unneeded. DHCP is enabled by default on the PIX 501 as well, so your clients would just need to be set up as DHCP clients and the firewall would provide all the needed IP info for the clients.
