Question : Windows 98 DNS Resolution Failure
The computer can ping all areas using IP Addresses. When you ping some of the web sites using there domain name they fail. For example, if you ping
www.microsoft.com
it fails but if you ping
www.yahoo.com
it works. Internet Explorer can reach only the sites that can be pinged. This started 3 days ago on a computer that is only in use by adults in an office setting. No changes were mage before this problem began. The machine was found to have VBS Stage on it which was removed using an anti-virus program. Other computers on the same LAN do not have this problem. The computers are connected to the Internet via a DSL modem that is connected to an internal switch.
Currently we have tried the following:
1. Changing the port on the switch and the patch panel.
2. Bypassing the firewall.
3. Changing NIC Card.
4. Host files was verified that it is standard.
The problem still remains. Of course we are looking to have the computer be able to surf the internet correctly.
The machine specs are:
E-Machines; E-Tower 333; Kingston NIC Card KNE111TX; 32 MB Ram.
