Question : Setting up a wireless network

Hi,

About a month ago the company I work for set up a wireless network in 4 different buildings. We have to wireless routers in every building. One routers is for guest (only access the the internet) and the other is for employees (access to network drives and internet). What we wanted was two ssid's per building one called "guest wireless" and the other "office wireless" or something to that effect. When we were setting these networks up, we put them on different channels like 6, 11, 1, and 6 so that they wouldn't interfere.

Now when I'm in one building looking for a wireless signal instead of 2 ssids (guest wireless and office wireless) there will be 2 or 3 guest wireless and 2 or 3 office wireless. We have all of the routers DHCP turned off, and all of the ssids are the same.

I guess my question is how do we get 2 ssid's for the whole network, no overlapping or multiple ssids just the 2 that I specified earlier?

Answer : Setting up a wireless network

You need to put the SSIDs of same name on Same Channel.
Eg. All "Office" APs on Cahnnel 1, All "Guest" APs on Channel 11

This also gives you the ability to roam between buildings without losing connection.

Depending on what type of gear you have, it may be able to "time itself" with the other nodes to avoid any interference that may be present. for instance Motorola Access Points can do this with ease.
