Question : Network Utilization very low

Hi there,
I have read a couple of questions relating to my problem on the site and also looked at the answer and none of them are any help.
I have 2 servers running 2003, connected with 2 gigabit NIC's and a gigabit switch. When i copy files from one to the other, or from any of the PC's to the servers, the utilization stays below 5%. I use Windows task manager to look at the stats as well as the performance monitor and also netstat. Netstat gave the most info regarding throughput which basically sits at 11Mbps per second - a far cry from the 1Gbps that one should theoretically get. All patch cables are store bought and the total distance is no more than 15m. I have to add that i have not tried a cross over cable between the servers, however that seemed a bit silly seeing that i cannot run crossover cables to all the other machines everytime someone wants to access a file.  I should also add that we use Routing and remote access as well, however i would assume that would only affect connections from the WAN side. I looked on the Microsoft website as well, however there was nothing that could use. Both machines have the latest servicepacks on as well. Does anyone know if there are any tweaks one could try to sort this slowness out?

Answer : Network Utilization very low

If everything physical seems to be in order like you describe then your network slowness doesn't have to be due to the network. It could be other things on one of the two machines sharing files. Try a couple tests of moving a single large file (1GB+) like an .iso image or a large folder in a zip/rar file. Just one big file and not a folder of smaller files. Now let's see if the network get any more active. It may be that you are waiting for disk or some other resource. You could also try a different file transfer method like ftp

In performance monitor, add some disk monitors and keep an eye on cpu and memory as well. Also, are all your switch ports Gb?
