Question : how do I set up a simple network with windows 2003 server and xp?
|
|
Hello,
I have a server machine running windows server 2003 (enterprise edition) and 3 PC's running XP Pro. I also have a DEC 16 port hub. I wish to setup up a small network in order to host an Access Database application. What are the steps I need to follow in order to accomplish this task. I am very new to networking.
Thanks.

Hello,
it's not a simple question to answer without understanding of what you actually want to acheive. Some good starting points are here: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Windows_2003/
you probably want to run the 2003 server as a domain controller, and also act as dhcp server. Use the "configure your server" wizard in admin tools to set these up easily.
then you need to log on to the xp stations and join the domain through right-click my computer, computer name, change (join domain)
then you will want to add some domain users on the server, and share some folders i suspect? the resource above has plenty of tutorials on how to acheive that.
good luck, &Cheers.
