Question : Linksys cannot find PPPoE server info

Had a strange problme with Linksys that has me puzzled. I have a DSL connection that is PPPoE. I can connect to my modem and get to the internet... I can connect to my router and get to my router interface. However when i connect to my router and then my router to my modem I cannot get online, can only get to router. the Linksys G router is configured to connect via PPPoE and I verified I have entered the correct User Name and password... I called my DSL provider and modem is configured correctly... It appears my Linksys is the problem. When I check the Router Status it say disconnected and all 0.0.0.0 in the IP address subnet etc info. I hit connect and it replies "cannot find PPPoE server" I switched routers and set up the new one just I had the first one and it works fine. Does anyone know what is up with the original router and the PPPoE connection issue? Thanks in advance, jstilgen

Answer : Linksys cannot find PPPoE server info

I know about this MAC address lock and I have even heard about some modems that have to be reset/readjusted by the ISP if you hook up another computer or a router to it. Normally, a reset as per the modem manual is enough, but you may want to contact your ISP helpdesk to hear if they have implemented some new procedure here.

On the other hand I have had a SOHO router suddenly refusing to talk to my modem while it could very well talk to another router; very confusing and I had to accept that it was broken, kinda, and get another as no sort of reset procedure could get it to work normally again.

As you see, I have no real answers for you...
