Question : extremely unstable wifi issue need help

Hello everyone...
Problem: wifi will not connect or cannot find network consistently. I have done the following: 1. update driver and firmware for linksys wrt54g (originally) current router is wrt300n and 300n series adaptor)(I hoped the stronger n draft router would help from outside interference but no luck yet) system is win xp pro, and xp media center. 2. tried multilple changes with channel settings. 3. Hard coded the router ip. as DNS 4. corrected energy saving setting too NOT disconnect from network when computer goes to standby. 5. examined most other wifi networks in the area were using channel 6. so I tried others. limited success. on both routers. when the new router did work it was great, i was getting between 130-270 mbs speeds!
the system most of the time will not automatically reconnect to our set ssid network. and sometimes it can't even see it. the distance from the router to the cpu's is 15 feet. (2 bedrooms away.) the walls are simple stucco not brick or concrete. the cordless phones in the home are all 5.8 ghz I suspect other interference as I have never seen such a unstable wifi. especially with the newer router. which did preform very well for 4 days then it has not been able to reconnect for the last 5 days. I have tried resetting, restarts. even hard coding the mac id and ip in both the router and network pref on the computer. I just don't know what else to try to maintain the connection, and whether or not there is some outside interference, thats blowing out our network. Lastly the wifi was set to use wpa2 personal as encryption and i tried both broadcasting the ssid and not broadcasting the id Please all help is extremely appreciated!!!

I use a combination of Netstumbler and whatever WiFi utility works best in that situation... If the builtin utility works, then I just go with that.. in your case, I am not sure what to suggest, other than possibly installing Netstumbler to get a better idea of the strength of your signal reception..
NetStumbler is a tool for Windows that allows you to detect Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) using 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g. It has many uses: # Verify that your network is set up the way you intended. # Find locations with poor coverage in your WLAN. # Detect other networks that may be causing interference on your network. # Detect unauthorized "rogue" access points in your workplace. # Help aim directional antennas for long-haul WLAN links. # Use it recreationally for WarDriving.
