Question : Problem conecting wirelessly to BT Home Hub
|
|
hi,
I have two computers, one connects by ethernet to my BTHomeHub the other pc is located in a different room and connects wirelessly. The wireless pc will not connect to the hub. The signal strength is good, it tries to connect, appears to make a connection for a few seconds then disconnects. The same PC used to connect to a Belkin router without any issues. The Belkin router broke so I replaced it with the BT Home Hub. I rang BT and they have been unable to assist me. Does anyone have any ideas what to try to be able to resolve the issue. Thank you

There are a couple of things that go into making a Wireless connection work. You can find the User Guide for your BT Home Hub by following the link below:
http://media.venda.com/btshop/ebiz/btshop/resources/userguides/bttotalbroadband_userguide2.pdf
On page 13 you will find instructions on setting up the Wireless.
Here are a couple of imporntant things that you will want to do:
1) If you are using WEP both sides need to use the same key (see instructions). The type of data encryption must also match on both sides.
2) If your Wireless PC is looking for a specific SSID it may need to be changed, or the SSID on the BT Home Hub will need to be changed (they both need to be the same). It is best to set this to a unique SSID just in case a neighbor happens to have the same kind of wireless equipment.
3) All wireless networks run on a radio frequency. Usually everything automatically adjusts, but sometimes you can have a problem. You need to make sure both devides are on the same channel, and even more imporntant you need to make sure you dont have a neighbor using wireless on the same channel (this will really confuse things if it is happening).
This covers most of the basics. Please let us know if this works.
