Question : Maximum number of connections exceeded XP SP2
|
|
Hi all, I have an XP SP2 machine with its hard drive mapped as the O: drive on other company PCs. However it only lets 10 computers map and then says "Maximum number of connections exceeded". Is this a windows licensing issue ? or Is there a fix for this ?
Thank you

You pretty much have to pay the MS tax to do it directly. The 10 user limit has been around about as long as windows.
The 'inexpensive' alternative would be to setup a small NAS (Networked Attached Storage) unit. This would be able to host your drive O: files for any number of users. This approach works well for basic requirements and is very easy to setup.
Here's an example of a decent low end unit,

If you need to have a lot more than just 10 concurrent users you may want to look at something a bit more beefy. Really depends on what the share is going to be used for.
