Question : Deciphering Email Error
|
|
Can anyone shed light on how to decipher the following error message?
I received this error message after composing and sending a new email:
Reporting-MTA: dns; eastrmmtao05.cox.net Arrival-Date: Mon, 24 Jul 2006 11:52:41 -0400 Received-From-MTA: dns; mypc (xx.xxx.xx.xx)
Final-Recipient: RFC822; Action: failed Status: 5.1.8 Remote-MTA: dns; mail1.visi.net (206.246.194.29) Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 573 [email protected] unknown user account
I've changed identifying information for privacy. "mypc" is my computer name and "xx.xxx.xx.xx" is my (outside) IP address.
The "[email protected]" is the email I am trying to send to and "[email protected]" is the account I am having trouble sending from.
This issue seems to be domain wide on both sides (all users at myemail.org are unable to send to all users at destination.com).
I'm not having trouble sending to other domains and am able to receive email from other domains.
Also, myemail.org is not hosted with "visi.net". Could this be a DNS configuration issue at destination.org?
TIA

Answer : Deciphering Email Error

The key information is here:
>>>Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 573 [email protected] unknown user account
What this means is that there is NO user account "me" at the server for "myemail.org" _OR_ for some reason the server is reporting this even if this account does exist. Sometimes anti-spam software does this to prevent re-sends.
You should contact the admin for the destination email server and see if he can track this down in their server logs.
