Question : DCPROMO - Can not add back to Domain.

I was having a problem with a DC Windows 2000 Server on a Windows 2000 Domain. So I removed it off the domain - dcpromo /forceremove. However I want DCPROMO it back onto the domain. It will now not even allow me to add it to the domain as a member server. What can I do to getting this back as a DC onto the domain besides formatting re-loading?

Answer : DCPROMO - Can not add back to Domain.

Yes you will want to make sure all DCs test successful as well =-)
The global catalog stores a full replica of all objects in the directory for its host domain and a partial replica of all objects contained in the directory of every other domain in the forest.  It is installed by default on the first DC in the domain.  There is no problem with this configuration.  You definately want more than one in your envrionment in case of a server failure you will not be 'hard down'  as an example my domain is split across T1 lines.  I have 4 DCs (2 per subnet)  I have all servers acting as DNS, and Global catalogs, that way if one of my DCs fails on either subnet then DNS and GC services will always be available.  If for example DNS services are unavailable it will take FOREVER for a client to log on to the system.  A missing GC will cause problems with replication and machine and user addition to the system.  I am glad that all is testing succesfully now.  Windows 2000 Active Directory is a little hard to get at first but it's benefits far outweigh it's problems.  As a rule of thumb make sure you have DNS, GC, and a DC online at all times and all will be well ;-)
