Question : Slow performance on peer-to-peer network

We have a three computer peer-to-peer newtork. Three new Dell workstations with very fast duo and quad processors and very fast hard drives. Connected via a gigabit 3com switch, gigabit Broadcom and Intel NICs, and new CAT6 cables behind a Sonicwall TZ 170. One computer acts as the server. One folder on the server has 10,000 files. One peer can access this folder quickly; the other peer's access is painfully slow even if it and the "server" peer are the only objects on the network. We have checked cables, disabled antivirus and firewalls, reinstalled XP, and can find no explanation for the difference in speed. Occasionally, the slow computer also has quick access. We connect via drive mapping. Any suggestions?

Answer : Slow performance on peer-to-peer network

Could there be any interefence near the cable - i.e. causing crosstalk?
Also - have you tried changing the network adapter(s) in the PC that is having problems?
