Question : Share Permissions vs Security Permissions

Hello

I am working on implementing file and folder security on my network shares. When i open the properties window there is a sharing tab and a security tab.

This is where my question is comming from. On the sharing tab i can click the permissions button and it gives me a a permissions box. This box looks just like the security area but does not contain matching information?

What is the purpose of this area and what are the main differences between this permissions area and the security area?

What are the best practices also? Should they contain identical information?

The sharing permissions applys when users connect to the folder from a different computer
The security settings apply when users try to access the drive
