Question : How to combine two NICs

My server 2003 has two 1GBps NICs. Is there any way I can combine these two NICs together as one which has double bandwith, 2GBps?
OS: Microsoft Server2003
Compueter Manufacture: Dell PowerEdge 2950
Any help, I really appreciate.

Answer : How to combine two NICs

They already inherently have 2X the bandwidth .... but that's misleading.

First, their raw signalling rate is 1Gbps as long as they're connected with other like devices.

Second, the data bandwidth will be limited by network overhead, traffic, etc.  So, the raw signalling rate and the realized bandwidth are two different things.

Third, what might they connect to?  If it's the same device or source or hub or even a switch then the other end may well be limit you to 1Gbps.

Presumably you could put both NICs on the same subnet.  Then you'd need to have software using both of them in some meaningful way.  And, the issue of the same source comes to mind once more.

But, if you're happy to have them on separate physical subnets, connecting to separate thngs at the other end, then presumably you could have 2X the data rate - but on different data for different app's, etc.  I'm not sure how interesting that is!
