Question : Connecting an IP printer to a PC ethernet port

I have a unique problem.

There is a desktop PC running Windows XP which connects ot the network and internet using wifi. There is a Fuji Xerox C525A network printer currently connected to this PC using USB.

I do not want to run a network cable from the router to this PC and printer.

I am sharing this printer with other PCs using windows printer sharing, but I would like to now use the printer as an IP printer connected directly to the network rather than using the USB cable.

So the question is: Short of purchasing a wireless access point to connect the printer using ethernet, can I instead connect the printer to the ethernet port of the PC (the pc is using wireless, so the ethernet port is free) and get the printer on the network with an IP address assigned by the router? If yes, how can this be achieved within Windows XP?

Thanks for your assistance.

Answer : Connecting an IP printer to a PC ethernet port

Hello There,

I think that will be a mess to manage if you have a large number of PC.
However, the way to do that is to give the printer and PC ethernet an IP from a different subnet than your PC's Wireless subnet. Also, put static route in your router pointing towards your PC for the new subnet on which the printer is.

This Should work.
