Question : Unanswered 500 - FTP Error :No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it Client closed the connection.

I have set up my computer as a FTP server using FileZilla application and as long as I am in my local network( at my home) I am able to ping it or connect to it and access the files. But when I am in a different network and while using smartFTP client, I get the following error:
"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Client closed the connection."
Am I missing something here. I am behind a firewall and I have opened/given access for my notebook ( the one that is set a ftp server ) for any inbound request on port 21. My ISP is SBC Yahoo DSL and the router mnftr is 2WIRE. Please help me out

It's different for each brand of router but the concept is the same. you need to log into your SBC router using your web browser. This is normally accomplished by placing the private IP of the router into your address line and clicking GO. If it has a password that you don't know you will need to talk to your ISP about getting it. More commonly the usernames are admin and the password is left blank. Once you get into your router you then need to find the section marked ervices, forwarding, or firewall rules. Then you need to activate or enable the forwarding of port 21 from the wan through your router and directed at the private IP of your laptop. Most routers make this an automated task. just insert the private IP of your laptop in the line next to the virtual server line label FTP and select the enable or allow button next to it, and save your settings. Usaually your router will reboot causing a 30 second to 1 minute outage for internet and then the setup should be complete. I would configure the laptop to a static ip address instead of getting your address from the router since it can change with router reboots and other equipment in your network could take the forwarded address.
