Question : remote desktop connects, get gray screen then disconnects after a minute.

I am attempting to connect to a windows 2003 server using remote desktop.  It seems to connect but all I get is a gray screen with the usual tab at the top showing the ip address.  About a minute later I receive an error message stating remote desktop disconnected..connection broken.. Info I have;
ping = fine

event logs:

connection via VNC;  connection accepted ..... Sconnections: AuthFailureException .... connection closed

connection via RDP:  Failed to load Terminal Service profile path. Note the profile path must be less than 256 characters in length.

Answer : remote desktop connects, get gray screen then disconnects after a minute.
