Question : C:\WINDOWS\system32\driver<wbr />s\etc\host<wbr />s redirecting not working

I need to use C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts to redirect hostnames to another IP but for some reason it's not working for me. On another computer on the same network it does work but not on mine. Is there any way that the redirecting could be disabled or not working? Does anyone know how i can fix this?

Answer : C:\WINDOWS\system32\driver<wbr />s\etc\host<wbr />s redirecting not working

Assuming W2k or XP, open a command prompt and enter
ipconfig /flushdns
followed by
ipconfig /displaydns
In the second command, the entries you specified in the hosts file should be displayed.
If that is not the case, start regedit. Go to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters; check the REG_EXPAND_SZ value "DataBasePath", which should be set to %Systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc. If it isn't, set it back, and do a thorough scan for spyware, as this is basically the only piece of software that changes this entry.
