Question : Cannot add XP workstation to Domain
|
|
I am trying to add an XP workstation to our domain and it will not. I get an error on the workstation that says, "The following error occurred attempting to join domain The specified server cannot perform the requested action"
A record is located in Active Directory for the computer but it is disabled. I enable it but the PC is not part of the domain. I have run dcdiag and netdiag and I do not get any errors. I run the SRV and A records check and all seems to be fine. I am stumped. What am I missing?
I have set the PC to look to our DNS server that is also a domain controller.

Do you want to have the same computer name,,,if so follow the steps in order, 1.delete the computer account in the domain controller,,,, 2.restart your workstation. 3.do ipconfig/flushdns and ipconfig/registerdns in the workstation. 4. now try to connect the workstation to the domain with admin preveliged account... if you get the same error, goto adsiedit and delete the sid od the record (dont do this if you are not familiar with adsi).....
also give a new computer name to the workstations and check whether you can join the domain....i am assuming you have active Lan connection which can access to your domain...:)
