Question : ProSafe VPN318 v3 client configuration problems

I have a Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall FVS 318 v3. I am unable to establish VPN connectivity using the Prosafe client software OR Windows XP VPN client. As far as I can tell I have created the correct IPSEC and VPN policies on the FVS, but my software clients do not even get to phase 1 authentication, and the FVS records NO communication. Clearly I am missing something. Can anyone help me?

Answer : ProSafe VPN318 v3 client configuration problems

XP VPN  uses either PPTP or L2TP/IPsec, something completely different from "pure IPSec" with the ProSafe Client.

When using the Client, and you provided the routers public ip as VPN gateway address, you SHOULD see some logging on router. On the other hand, it is normal behaviour not give out any failure message to the client, if Phase 1 data is not corresponding.

Is your VPN Firewall the internet gateway, too? If not, you have a forwarding issue with udp/500 (IPSec).
