Question : One Computer effects another internet connection

Two computers connecting wireless to a DSL router. One Laptop running Vista and one Desktop running XP. The desktop running XP will only work when the Laptop is switched on. If I turn of the laptop the desktop disconnects. Any thoughts. The Desktop was setup initially before the laptop was introduced to the network.
