Question : WebSphere 4 ASSE on WinXP install problem
|
|
Hi All.
I got an installation problem of WebSpehere 4 ASSE on the WinXP Pro SP1 OS. The solutions published on the newsgroups of ibm do not to work (as other users also complain) :(
The install program stops at 99% and an error dialog that some dll in InstallShield performed an illegal operation appears from WinXP.
The suggested problem is IMB HTTP Server, but I can install it separately and it runs, and also I made a custom WAS installation where I did not choose to install the web server.
The solutions proposed on IBM newsgroups: - log in as Administrator (id, not an admin user) - set the values of the TEMP environment variables to a short path like c:\temp
I have WinXP Pro SP1 on a Dell Inspiron 8200 (P4) machine with lots of memory and disk space.....
Thanks, Cristian

Answer : WebSphere 4 ASSE on WinXP install problem

Hello Cristian,
I know its really a pain to install a different OS just for the heck of compatibility problem of an application. But even I had to do a similar thing, and install W2K on my machine. In fact, I got a similar InstallShield error while trying to install Seebeyond eGate EAI application on WinXP Pro.
hence, it certainly is an application compatibility issue and I am not sure wot actually happens because of which this InstallShield error comes up. Something to do with registry settings or perhaps trying to register some dll..it could be anything.
Anyways, for future use, can you let me know how did you got this WAS 5 Developer preview edition. is it available freely on IBM site ?
Cheers, Vin.
