Question : Migrating of exchange server to data centre

One of my clients has an unreliable Exchange server onsite. I would like to move it to a data centre and host it on my own server there. The mailboxes (100) need to be replicated and the GAL needs to stay in place.

Can i just physically move the server to my rack space and repoint MX records etc or reinstall Exchange on a new reliable server in the data centre and migrate the mailboxes? What happens to the domain? How does the Exchange server talk to the AD? Do I need a domain at the client site as they only access fileservers/printers locally.

Thanks in advance

Answer : Migrating of exchange server to data centre

you cannot have exchange without Ad therefore i f you want to have the server at another location id advise to either have AD there and remove it from the clients site and users will access exchange via outlook anywhere, owa and activesync or bridge the clients LAN to the other location
